"Freely ye have received, freely give."
(Matthew 10:8)
"Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you" (Acts 1:8). If you can be silenced, then you need to take some time to get apart and seek the face of God. Be refilled with the Holy Spirit so you have a compulsion again to preach to everything that moves like you did when you first loved Him and were loved of Him. Be ready to share with every man the reason of the hope that's in you.
We need to so freely shout what we've heard in secret. Embrace the commission as salt and light, realizing that we are epistles that are read of men. We are the only Jesus some people will ever encounter. God, in His wisdom, will bring His Word and presence to every man. The knowledge of God is in every man; and God by His grace will give every man that opportunity--and some of us are that vessel. Consistent living, a life without guile, and a willingness to identify with His suffering will ultimately be the fruit of your evangelism. Because they hated Him, they will hate you; but there is a remnant to be saved, lives as brands to be plucked from the fire.
Evangelism isn't always some great picnic or great celebration. If we go forth weeping, bearing precious seed, we shall doubtless come again rejoicing bringing in the sheaves with us (Ps. 126:6). You don't always have to consummate the encounter; just sow some seed. One sows, another waters, the Lord brings the increase (1 Cor. 3:6). Tell what the Lord has done for your soul. Once you've shared and they've heard, then go your way. God will send someone to water it.
You can only love to the degree of the revelation of how much you've been loved. If you just don't have a heart, then draw closer to the heart of Father who's loved you. The Scripture says those who have been forgiven much, love much (Luke 7:47).
Many of us see evangelism as a difficult endeavor because we have perceived it as structured, being put into positions of discomfort, having to encounter strangers "cold turkey" and confront them with their sin. There is a time for that, but evangelism is the natural flow of sharing what has been done for our souls. Evangelism is freely giving as we have received, loving as we've been loved, and sharing the reality of the hope that's in us. It is a compulsion that we can't help but speak the things that we have seen and heard. "Let me tell you what He will do for you."
It really will change your attitude toward going to work. Husbands, it may even change your attitude about going to the mall. There's somebody to tell Jesus about. If you ever want an environment to die to self, as the stranger sits next to you outside the shoe store, begin to talk to him about having your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. You can get to the Scriptures from anywhere! What is the key ingredient to fulfilling the call of evangelism in your life? Availability--"Here am I; send me."
Lord Jesus, You sought us, and You are seeking every person. There is not one that You have not died for. There is not one that You have not loved, and there is not one that You are not calling. Speak through us, we ask. Love through us. Send us that You might be all in all. It's our heart, Father, in Jesus' name. Amen.
