"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
(Hebrews 11:1)

Our desire to make life easy and solve problems quickly is seducing us from walking in faith--from relying on the blood of Jesus, the prayer of faith and the power of God. I'm not saying that it's wrong for you to take whatever pill you might be taking. That's not the issue, but have any of those pills caused you to believe less in the finished work of Jesus? You say, "Oh no, no." Wait a minute before you respond to that in a Pavlovian way. Where is our trust today? Have we been robbed by progress from the simplicity of trusting God for our daily bread or that healing touch? Do we look first to the spiritual resources, or have we been seduced? If we have, we may feel better, but we're not at rest--and we know it.

Rest comes with true biblical faith. So much teaching on faith has been from the humanistic perspective that we have not truly understood what biblical faith is. Most of us can give the biblical definition of faith: "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Heb. 11:1). What does that mean? Faith, in its simplest and practical form, is trust, reliance, and assurance in God's promises. I act upon what God says. I'm a doer of the Word not a hearer, deceiving myself. It's not about my doctrine; it's about my life, my actions. In our desire to purely apply the Word of God, we don't want anybody trusting in an action; we want people trusting in God. The action is the result of the trust. Too many of us think, "If I do that, God is obligated to respond to me."

For example, some who believe for healing take off their glasses, stomp on them, and throw them in the trash, and believe that is faith. No, taking your glasses off, throwing them in the trash, and running over some pedestrian is not faith! Faith is not the action. Faith is the heart assurance that what God has promised He will perform. Many of us want something to do, but what we need to do is rest, trust and rely.

It's not enough for many of us to believe that by His stripes we are healed. It's not enough for many of us to believe that the prayer of faith saves the sick and the Lord raises them up. It's not enough for many of us to believe that whatsoever things we desire when we pray if we believe that we receive them we shall have them, so we have to find other scriptures like, "Moses eyes dimmed not, neither was his strength abated." There's nothing wrong with that. But some of us want to get a little more specific, so we stand on that. There are times in my life when experiencing the visitation of God and having His best working in my life are more important to me than at other times. It's not to get rid of my glasses. Sometimes I just endure because I have adjusted to living outside of God's best.

Some people have made getting healed all there is to the gospel. Some people make getting healed an idol. It's not an idol; it's a gift. We can talk about other things. Many of us are not content; we're just not happy. We absolutely are living lives of anxiousness because we believe God shortchanged us and is a respecter of persons. We wouldn't come out and say that, but our frustrations and our discontentment are the fruit of it.
