"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life..."
(Deuteronomy 30:19)

Deuteronomy 30:15 says, "See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil." We are living in a world that is under the power of the curse of sin, a world awaiting its redemption. We are living in the midst of a people who are in the process of being sanctified that we might be glorified. We are living in a world where God is sovereign, and in His sovereignty, He has chosen to involve Himself in all things, for He is infinite and omniscient. He is omnipotent; therefore, nothing happens that He does not allow or is not aware of. Everything that happens works for good to those that love God and are called according to His purpose, Romans 8:28 tells us.

What you don't understand at this moment in your life, trust that it is working for good. You say, "I don't understand." You don't need to understand. You just need to know God and believe that all things work together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purposes.

God said, "I have set before you life and death, therefore choose life" (Deut. 30:19). Those are the choices that we have. What do you choose to believe about God's involvement in your life? Too many of us are choosing to believe that our flesh cannot be controlled. Too many of us are choosing to believe that the influence of antichrist is absolutely irresistible, but it's not. There is one determining factor for the course of your life. God has delivered man from the power of sin, but you deliver yourself by believing God. You can't believe by yourself; it is a gift of God, not of works. By grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves (Eph. 2:8). It is not of self lest any man should boast, but you are involved in the process; you are the final determining factor. God has paid the price and has given the abiding of His Spirit. But you are where you are and what you are because that is what you choose to be.

You might say, "That's not the news I was looking for." God is no respecter of persons. He has given us all the same measure of faith (Rom. 12:3). What are you doing with what God has given you? You say, "Well, you know, my genetic makeup, my personality, my circumstances..." No, it is your choices that have gotten you where you are. We don't want to hear that in our society today where we are all victims and it is never our fault.

What is the Promised Land as it pertains to us? It is not heaven. It is the sanctified life, the victorious Christian life. God said, "There's a land that I want you to walk into. You didn't build the houses or dig the wells; Jesus did, but you can eat from it." What do you have to do? You have to choose. In this time of prosperity, having partaken of the grace of God and having known the forgiveness of sins, don't think that you have the right to govern your own life. We are unprofitable servants. We are here to work and live for the glory of God and not for ourselves. Our choices are to honor God, not to promote ourselves or satisfy the lusts of our members. The lusts don't burn any hotter in you than anybody else. We are all sinners and have sin in our members. Because every person is a child of Adam, within our breast beats a heart of selfishness and pride; and every one of us is required to kill it daily. Why would you think you are the exception?
