"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God."
(Colossians 3:1)
"Be ye therefore ready for the Son of man comes in an hour when you think not" (Luke 12:40). What are you doing to prepare yourself for the coming of the Lord? When the Son of man comes, will He find faith upon the earth? (Luke 18:8) Seek first the kingdom of God. Reestablish your treasure. That is not easy to do in this day when everything around us is promoting more. You have to look this way, dress this way, smell this way, live in this neighborhood. It is all going to pass away. What are you doing to prepare yourself with a new value system--the Pearl of great price, the eternal treasures? "Lay up for yourself treasures in heaven...For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Matt. 6:19, 20). Establish your treasure. What is the goal that you are pursuing right now? Some of us would say it's a house, a car, or an increase in salary. For so many today, it's a woman. What is your treasure really?
You need to be ever ready for the imminent return, but you can't truly be motivated without first being truthful about the real condition of your heart. Most of us will lie to ourselves and say our treasure is the Lord. What do you spend your time and energy on? What occupies your thoughts? What can you live with and what can you live without? We all know the doctrine, but what about your heart? I can live without anything but the presence of God. Take not Your Holy Spirit from me. That's why the foolish virgins were in so much trouble. They thought they could live with less of the Spirit of God.
All of us are affected and vexed; none of us are immune. Every one of us has sin in our members, constantly warring with selfishness, pride, fear, envy, lust, seditions, heresies, emulations and strife. But we do not want to be found wanting; we want to be ready. Receive the grace, strength and faith to press on toward the mark, the prize, the high calling of God. Reestablish eternal, heavenly treasures. Take your eyes off the treasures of this world and seek those things that are above, where Jesus is seated at Father's right hand.
Are the things of earth growing strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace? Everything is neon today. What a day we are living in. The Scripture talks about the patient waiting for the coming of the Lord. We get distracted because we have lost patience. We are not settled on how valuable His coming is. We don't want to wait for anything. Learn patience. What has value is worth waiting for. Keep yourself pure and separate. Change your value system and glorify God in your obedience, for the day of the Lord is at hand.
Turning your eyes upon Jesus, looking full in His wonderful face is what makes all of the things of this earth grow strangely dim. The world can't see Him. They don't know what you are looking at. They say, "Why can't we distract you with these treasures?" It is because we see Him Who is invisible. Do you see Him today? Let's look on His face and allow everything else to be put into its proper perspective. How can you help but love Him? How can you help but seek Him first? Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full into His heart and to be touched with His love for you.
