"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want."
(Psalm 23:1)

"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want" (Ps. 23:1). I'm not going to be without. I'm not going to have less than I need. I'm not going to have less than will bring glory to God. I may have less than others, but I have exactly what God wants me to have. Is the Lord your shepherd, and you shall not want? That word want in the Hebrew means that I lack for nothing. Many of us are saying, "I lack a lot of things." Who's wrong--you or God?

The Bible says we have all things that pertain to life and godliness (2 Pet. 1:3). No good thing will He withhold to those who walk uprightly (Ps. 84:11). As I seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, all of these things that the heathen seek are added to me, for my Father knows that I have need of these things. Is the Lord your shepherd, or are you setting your own course? Do you have your own standards? Do you have your own GPS?

We had a cool GPS. We put this GPS in, and we're following it. I knew where to turn, but GPS didn't say to turn there. I passed a sign that said, "Turn." GPS said, "Go straight ahead." I thought, "Hey, this thing knows a shortcut." I ended up in South Carolina; I was supposed to be in North Carolina. As soon as we passed the border, I ripped it off the dash with patience and in good attitude and absolute control and sobriety.

Are you trusting in the GPS, man's methods, or your own perception? The Lord is our shepherd. His sheep know His voice, and another they will not follow (John 10:4-5). "I shall not want."

"If you come this way, you'll have what everybody else has. If you do it this way, guaranteed, that you'll..."

Over here is another voice, a still small voice behind us, saying, "This is the way; walk in it. Choose the cross. Choose to deny yourself. Choose the foolishness of My death and identify with that. Then you shall not want, for no good thing will I withhold." That means if I don't have it, it's not a good thing.

"Looks good to me."

No, but if you insist on having it, God will let you. Then He will have to work it for good because it isn't good. It will defile you, weaken you, and distract you. If God wanted you to have it, He would be the source.

Is the Lord your shepherd, or are you following the crowd? Do you understand the vacuum that's in the world today of the spirit of antichrist and worldliness? Do you understand what's being sucked into this thing?

Father, we thank You for Your Word. In a world when most of us have our humanistic GPS set, help us to look to the Lord, our shepherd, that still small voice. The way that is foolish in the eyes of men is wisdom with God. Help us to learn about the Lord, that You are good and Your mercies endure forever. Help us to walk with such a confidence that our children would know that no good thing does He withhold to those that walk uprightly. Help us to teach our babes to lift their eyes up and look to He that leads us into all truth, as we cast our care upon Him, knowing that He cares for us. As we lay down the burden of self-provision and become yoked with Him, His burden is light, the easy yoke of God.
