Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD's side?
Exodus 32:26

Is the Word of God being choked out of your life? You need to be honest with yourself. You can quote the Word. You say you believe it, but are you just giving mental assent? Do you really believe? You say you believe, but you have no power over your flesh and what you want to do you can't do. What you don't want to do is what you find yourself doing. You are under the power of your flesh when there is a law of spiritual living in Christ Jesus (Romans 8) that makes us free from the law of sin and death. Many of us have lied to ourselves and said, "This is what I believe." But you are the fruit that you are producing. That's what you are, not what you think you are. Not what you proclaim to be. Not what you hope to be. And not what you used to be. You're in the flesh and you're at enmity with God. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." Matthew 7:20

"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man" (Ecclesiastes 12:13). If our heart is not the good ground of Mark 4:8, then what we can quote and what we say we believe avails nothing, because the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches and the lusts of things are choking the Word of God out of our life. The lusts of things, education, success, ambitions, goals, what I want to achieve, what I want my financial status to be and how I want to be fulfilled, all choke the Word out of our heart. Our life is a vapor. It is here today and gone tomorrow. Everything in this life will be judged in fire and only what we do for the kingdom will remain. What are we pouring our lives out for? What are we promoting in our children's lives? Parents, what are we assisting them to do? Is it secular or is it eternal? What is the emphasis on the eternal versus the secular? Are we earth dwellers? Are we citizens of a heavenly kingdom? Are we pilgrims just passing through this land? This temporal life is not our home and these are not our treasures!

What was happening when Moses came down the mount from receiving the Ten Commandments? Joshua said, "It sounds like a battle." But Moses said, "It's not the sound of a battle, but a party." My ears have been hearing this sound. It's the sound of Luke 21:34, "...take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares." That surfeiting, or party spirit, is the culture that we live in. America is a big party. We are vexed by this spirit. We don't believe we are affected that much, but it is a spirit and it is vexing us. We are vexed if we don't have the armor of God on. The fiery darts are not quenched if we don't have the shield of faith. What are we doing to protect ourselves against every accusation hurled by demonic powers against the lordship of Jesus? Are we tearing down every accusation that tells us that we have rights, we deserve a break today, and that we are the greatest and smartest generation to ever live?

Who is on the Lord's side? Who will stand up and say, "We need to be purer. We need to be more committed, more zealous and more separate from the world." We are not talking about feigned holiness. We need a genuine holiness that brings glory to God in everything we do in word, in deed and in all manner of our living. Don't let your heart be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness. Don't be ignorant of Satan's devices that come as a snare and a trap upon those who embrace the spirit of this age and worship the idols of this generation.
