We are too big and God is too small in our eyes. God will become bigger in our eyes if devotion is in our hearts. Is the way I live proficient in expressing what I believe in Him? Who should be the object of our affection? Devotion to self is death. He wants our life to be all about Him. We fail to see the huge gulf between God and us. God wants to be glorified in us all the time. Our self is always screaming for attention. Trying to find fulfillment and contentment in self is death. God wants us to pursue glorifying Him.
