Chastening is to bring you to self denial. God knows how to push your buttons. Its not about you and its not about this life - its all about the life to come. The circumstances in your life are not an accident. God is jealous for your heart. He is fighting for the affection of your heart. Trials come to expose your heart. Spiritual growth comes by the experience of obedience. Denying yourself. The flesh wants you distracted. The circumstances are not the problem - you are the problem. The purpose of the trials is to purify you. The trials come to mature and strengthen us. Maturity comes by experience. The lifelong process of experience has a lot of failures with it. The word of God doesn't always make sense until you experience it. You'll never finish the race without the joy. God wants to find out what you'll hold back from Him. Pain strips away all pride.
